Our Brand
Why "kyrra"? What do you stand for? Find out below...

"Kyrra" is the norse word for peace. Our candles are all given norse names to reflect our County Durham roots, and a time gone by when people were more closely connected to nature and lived in harmony with the environment rather than overexploiting it.
We love the way that a great fragranced candle can transport you to another place or a happy memory after a hard day at work. Our fragrances are all custom created by us, and inspired by adventures in nature.

There are so many scented candle brands out there, so why does the world need another one (oh yeah, and why are our candles so expensive?)

We created Kyrra to combine amazing scents with a deep-rooted sense of sustainability and social responsibility.

As a regular buyer of fragranced candles, we were often disappointed by weak fragrances and/or greenwashing or simple lack of transparency about the ingredients.

Surely it was possible to make a great smelling fragranced candle with all sustainably sourced natural ingredients? Surely if someone is going to spend around £50 on a candle they would rather that money goes into quality rather than massive profit margins or advertising budgets?

So we set out to see if we could do better. Turns out, it's pretty tricky- essential oils are unpredictable, natural waxes often harder to work with. Working out the sustainability credentials of all our ingredients and packaging was harder than expected. But after a lot of time, effort and trials we've managed to create something that we are really proud of.

Welcome to our little corner of the world. We are small, but we're different and we hope to make you glad you found us!

So what makes us different?

Wax: No soy, no paraffin (neither are good for the environment). We use coconut and rapeseed blend for our core range, and a certified organic blend of coconut, traceable palm, beeswax and carnauba for our organic candles. Much more expensive yet much more environmentally friendly

Fragrance: We only use 100% natural essential oils for our candles. More than that, we actively look to avoid oils extracted through chemical methods and use steam distilled or cold pressed oils. We avoid unsustainably harvested oils, and actively look to incorporate sustainably wild harvested options that are good for the environment and support development of the often poor communities that harvest the oils.

We don't use "off-the-shelf" fragrance blends like a large number of other candlemakers. All of our fragrances are developed by us, blended by hand and independently certified by a qualified cosmetic chemist. All of this is expensive and time consuming, but we believe the results are well worth it. You won't find our fragrances in any other candles.

Packaging: Every aspect of our packaging is carefully considered from an environmental point of view. We source the most environmentally friendly raw ingredients possible and ensure that everything we produce is easy to recycle or biodegradable (right down to our glue).

You won't see any ribbons, trinkets, odd shaped vessels or novelty items. Everything has to be easy to recycle or be something you'll want to keep around to reuse. We've gone for understated luxury- with quality in the detail, such as our hand embossed logo on all of our packaging.

All of our candles are refillable to encourage reuse (or you can recycle the vessel- your choice).

We are transparent about our products, happy to answer questions and always striving to make Kyrra even better for you, the planet and the communities that produce our raw ingredients

10% of our profits are donated to charities supporting forest preservation, and you can learn more about this on our "Charities" page

As you would expect, everything we sell is cruelty-free

All of our products are handmade in County Durham, UK

Natural. Ethical. Sustainable

This is what drives us and motivates us to be better
And when we're done for the day, we love to de-stress with one of our candles

So please do come and join us and see what the fuss is about!
